Styro Spray Development
Industrial Polymers Corporation is proud to sponsor our future engineers in the field of new and innovative hybrid automotive technologies. Our UC Davis Formula Hybrid team was successful at the nationals in New Hampshire this year. The team has expanded this year beyond 20 active members and continues to inspire the UC Davis engineering community with their talent and dedication.
Our StyroSpray product was used in the construction of a light weight formula car body constructed from expanded polystyrene. Styrospray provides an impact resistant surface over low cost EPS foam which is very easy to cut and shape with simple hand tools , hot knife or hot wire. Our product allowed the team to quickly shape the light weight car body from low density EPS foam. The Styrospray
Product eliminated the need for expensive and time consuming fiberglass layup and molding. The ability to free form a light weight durable car body from low density foam paid benefits not only in the fuel efficiency challenges but also in the electric only acceleration trials. This superior engineering method also proved itself on the track through rigorous mechanical inspections.
Judges and guests were impressed with the car’s innovative parallel hybrid architecture.
It affords an elegant approach to allowing electric only power without spinning the motor while still allowing a combination of electric and gasoline power. We at Industrial Polymers are proud to support students in their journey to becoming world-class engineers in the green transportation sector. UC Davis Formula Hybrid Business Division has already started on FH3 as they begin reengineering parts and recruiting new members.
